Hardware: Dell XPS 9500 Intel Core i7-10875H 64GB Ram & Docking station WD19TB with two monitors
VMware® Workstation 17 Pro
17.0.2 build-21581411
Host OS: Windows 10 Pro Version 22H2 OS build 19045.2965
VM OS:
- Ubuntu 22.04.2 LTS - 5.19.0-42-generic #43~22.04.1-Ubuntu SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Fri Apr 21 16:51:08 UTC 2 x86_64 GNU/Linux
- GNOME Version 42.5
- Windowing System X11
- VMWare Tools: 12.1.0.37487 (build-20219665)
Has anybody else seen this or found a work around? I use Xorg/X11 because I have multiple monitors and when setting the monitor layout in the VM to use 2 or more monitors with Wayland I get scrollbars in the VM's main window however the screen coordinates are wrong and I am unable to click on the sign-in button in Ubuntu when this happens. I followed the solution from this question Ubuntu 22.4 LTS Multi monitor when cycling results in sinlge display with sliders to get around this issue with multiple monitors (which worked great until yesterday), but now it appears Xorg is failing catastrophically with this configuration. Thanks!
Try downgrade kernel to version 5.19.0-41, there's apparently a bug in 42.

This appears to work! Thanks much!!
Possible source bug for this issue: Kernel BUG (null ptr dereference) with linux-image-5.19.0-42-generic (HWE kernel on 22.04)
This issue appears to be resolved with kernel 6.2.0-26
