Vmotion between 2 ESX (iscsi) on wan (2 different sites)

Hi, I have a funny question. My company has 2 sites connected by WAN (line dedicated)

Is it possible to do a vmotion between 2 hosts, each on one site.

Of course this configuration is possible only if iscsi is used.

Anybody has already tested this configuration ?

Regards

In theory it should work. How big is the pipe between sites?

Yes I think so. I use SDRF between 2 SANS but please try it out. You may find out something interesting

I could think of a couple possible constraints...

1) Make sure that both hosts can see the same networks. For example, if you're using 802.1q VLAN Tagging and the host on the other side of the WAN cannot see the VLAN that the guest is on, then VMotion won't work.

2) From the VMotion requirements page (http://www.vmware.com/support/vc/doc/c1requirements.html#1045854), it says: "VMotion requires a Gigabit Ethernet network between virtual machines. "

Maybe the host won't know that there's not a gigabit network between the two if you're plugged into a gigabit switch, but it's something to be aware of. You should probably check the other VMotion requirements to make sure your setup addresses all of them.
