Move vm from esxi to vcenter.

Hi,

I'm fairly new to VMWare and was wondering if anyone has any info on how I can move a VM from my free esxi test box to my VCenter production enviroment. Thanks in advance for the help.

Assuming that you don't have a spare license to add the host - at least temporarily - to the vCenter Server, and you also don't have shared storage to which all hosts have access, you could either backup/resore, export/import as OVF, or copy the VM using ofvtool (see e.g. https://www.virtuallyghetto.com/2012/06/how-to-copy-vms-directly-between-esxi.html)

Thank you for the link. Any time I try to export to an OVF, it times out when I get to between 10 and 20GB and says Network Failed. I'm just exporting to my local PC. The hard drive is no where close to full. I've tried disconnecting the removable media before I export, but it still fails. Any suggestions?

Is it the same with the command line tool?

Which ESXi version/build do you use?

Please attach the VM's configuration (.vmx) file to a reply post, to see whether it contains any unusual entries.

I guess I should specify, the vmdk portion of the export is what fails.
