For VMware Workstation 7, the Intel Server CPU X55xx only works with build 169612 and earlier...
For later build number, you have to use Stepping D0 of the Intel Server CPU X55xx
For that 169612 version I find works fine in most case,
and you can use later license number to keep it runs - till you change your CPU to formal release one.
Hope this help.
Happy ThanksGiving Day!
Created a new VM But when it boots the first time get same error
can you start VMs if you login as administrator AND use "run as administrator" ?
and do not disable logging - in case of trouble you will need them - also this has nothing to do with your current problem

Nope cannot
Yesterday installed Windows 2008 RC2
Login as Administrator installed VM-Ware workstation.
Same error...
Tryed to create a new VM same error.
When i install VM-Ware workstation 6.5 all work's fine
if I were in your shoes I would wait for 7.0.1 before I would try WS 7 again - you are not the only one reporting this ...
WS 7 seems to have problems on some Win 7 or similar systems

Are there many changes between Vm-ware 6.5 and Vm-ware 7
How des CPU handeling takes place ?
is the QPI the cause ?
Been waiting for a moth now.
but oke. Got a mail from vm-ware to test the pre- relase of vm-ware 7
Then got mail final vw-ware 7 is out.
But will wait.
today spend about 4 hours again trying to find a solution for it.
but will not give up
thx for help.
posting here was mine last option.
Am VCP so should be able to figure it out a bit.
Try to run CPU-Z and take screenshot of it.
Make sure you CPU is formal release of stepping D0
Not a ES CPU.
If it is a ES CPU, you have to replace it with a formal release of stepping D0

Just a remind that 169612 might have problem when try to install Virtual Machine for Server 2008 R2
Try to set it as Windows 7 and actuallty try to install Server 2008 R2 ISO or CD
The other trick is try to create the virtual machine on another comptuer that works fine
then run the virtual machine on you X5500 CUP computer - that will resolve a mumber of installation difficult.
When you get an D0 stepping X55xx CUP, all those problems are gone.
I have the ASUS Z8NA-D6 Motherboard and 2x Engineering sample processors and getting the exact same fault on both VM Ware Player and VM Ware Workstation.
Attempted an install of ESXi Server 4.0 and it Pink Screens before i get to install with same Error
bora/lib/replay/cpuidReplay.c:312
on VMware player i get
d:/build/ob/bora-203739/bora/lib/replay/cpuidReplay.c:311
Im thinks its VMware not liking the CPU's but i will attempt with some non ES CPU this week.

It seems our FTP site is stopped at this moment.
I will try sometime later and let you know when it is ready.
The file is around 369 MB (387,906,872 bytes)
If you have FTP site, I can upload to your site too.
Use the new key, pre-release key is expired.
But the new key is OK for the release.
