VirtualMachine (Orphaned)

Hi all,

After a failed Dmotion from 2.5 to 3.01 (initial migration, and shutdown to complete migration) I created a new VM pointing to the original vdmk's on the ESX2.5 hosts

This still left the VM I tired to migrate on the ESX3.01 Host.

There are no options to delete this in VC, just complete migration. (Which I have tried twice, and don't want to a third time).

I unregeistered the VM in the console, but now VC sees the VM as orphaned.

Is there anyway I can remove this?

Regards,

Andrew

You might try to run service mgmt-vmware restart at the console of your ESX host and then wait a few minutes to see if VC updates. Is the VM listed if you connect the VI client directly to the ESX server?

Hi Dave,

The VM does not appear when directly connected to the ESX host.

I will try the command (after vmotioning off other hosts)

Have now run service mgmt-vmware restart

Still showing the orphaned VM. But no longer showing complete migration option.

Any more suggestions appreciated.

Removed the host from VC, and added it again. The Orphaned VM is now gone.

Thanks for your suggestion Dave, it put me on the right track
