VCP 4 or VCP 5 ?

Hi All,

I have decent experience with VMware and I am planning to give VCP certification , but I am not able to decide for which one I should go VCP 4 or VCP 5..As VCP 4 is going out of date in Feb ,2012.

FYI : I don't have any VCP certification yet.

So my question is , Which course I should take to give VCP 5 , and how much credit it will cost.

Same way If I will go for VCP 4 , which course should I take , and how much credit it will cost.

Thanks in advance.

-Mak

Here's the official VCP4 page: http://mylearn.vmware.com/mgrReg/plan.cfm?plan=22519&ui=www_cert

There's plenty of VCP4 content on my blog, where you'll find other answers to your questions: http://vmwaretraining.blogspot.com

Welcome.

May the best option today is do VCP4 and after do VCP5 (Course not required to VCP5 if you already have VCP4 - 29 february.

Look http://mylearn.vmware.com/mgrReg/plan.cfm?plan=12457&ui=www

If you start from scratch, than maybe the VCP5 could be a better choice.

You have to attend to an official course (see previous link on which are valid for VCP5 and which for VCP4)... this require time.

Than you have to prepare, take and pass the VCP exam... other time...

If you choose VCP4 and then the VCP5 upgrade you have only few months.

I agree with AndreTheGiant, go for the VCP5.

Take the class room training. Set up a lab and practice the different functions. Read the documentation (at least the one mentioned in the blueprint). Take the time you need and once you feel comfortable take the exam.

Thanks a.p. and AndreTheGiant,

Appreciate your response as well. So VCP5 will be best option and that way I don't have any time line as well.

btw Is it ok , to go for VCP 5 directly, without VCP 4. ? and Do we have any starting matirial on VCP 5. ?

I think different from my friends. But it depends on you if you have the time and believes he can take the VCP4, would be very interesting, so you enjoy and makes VCP5 later without a new course. And so you're more valued in the market, and VCP4 VCP5, instead of having just VCP5.
Oh will you and your time ...

Yes, you can start with VCP5 directly (see Mauro's link in his first response). There you will find links to the blueprint, ... There are also a lots of blog posts as well as some books and video trainings available for vShpere 5.

Btw. unless you have a valid license for vSphere 4, you won't be able to download the evaluation for training anymore. (see Re: No more vCenter 4.1 eval?)

You're going to need to take the vSphere 5: Install Configure Manage course to qualify you for the VCP5 anyway, that material along with the blueprint, the documentation and running the software too, should all help towards your preparation for the exam. Don't forget that vSphere 5 is less than a month old, there aren't any overall vSphere 5 books on the market yet.

Hi,

I have one query, to have VCP- 5 which exam do we have to select.

VCP-510 Exam: VMware Certified Professional on vSphere 5

VCP-511 Exam: VMware Certified Professional on vSphere 5 (Private Beta).

Regards,

VCP-510 is the one to book, in fact it's the only one of the two you can book now, as the description suggests VCP-511 was the "private beta" version of the exam.
