Desktop Resolution

The QA department want to be able to adjust the desktop resolution but the VDM client seems to have that automatically fixed. Is there a way to adjust that?

Strangely the resolutions seems to automatically adjust based on the platform accessing it, for example my widescreen laptop is presented desktops at 1280 x 800 whereas as my standard linux desktop gets 1280 x 1024 from the same VM.

I too would like to have an answer to this question. When opening the VDI Client in a window it chooses a screen resolution filling the entire screen. Once open, the screen resolution of the virtual machine can not be altered. Current workaround:

  • change resolution of pc to desired resolution of vdi client

  • open vdi client

  • change back resolution of pc

  • dont restart pc or vdi client for as long as they are stable...

This is the same action that native RDP has as well. I suspect this is built-in to the tool and not something that VDM/any broker will every be able to monkey with (without an RDP client update).

Yes, but when opening an RDP session you can choose your resolution, an option VDI does not have as far as I can tell...

This is typically a feature of the client, but the resolution can not be changed after your session has been established.

This is a pretty big need for our company as well. I'm a bit suprised that it got out of beta without this simple functionality to set desktop size...

Our company has a fix for this. We will be selling VDI as a service, as a green pc solution for SMB's and we have developed custom software that integrates with the wyse thin clients we run as well as the VDI OS, so the user can change their resolution from their desktop without needing to touch the thin client OS. You can check out our company at For us the thin client is where the resolution must be changed as that is where the display is. Our software changes the thin client resolution, which then changes the RDP session and the VDI OS (for us its vista).
