VMTools installing as Ver7 and Ver9.

Hi All.

Having a strange issue at the moment with VMTools, haven't seen it before.

When i install VMtools on this particular VM it has VMTools installed twice. VMTools 7 and VMTools 9.  These are both in the bottom systray.  There is only one installation in Add/Remove Programs.   When this copy is uninstalled, both versions are gone without a trace, when VMTools is installed again, they both appear back after a single installation.    This is the only VM out of the 20 that has this issue.

They were all running on ESX 4.0 (ver. 7) and then migrated and upgraded to 5.5.  All VMs were upgraded using the same process.  This is a Server 2003 (There's a couple more that are running  that don't have the issue at all)

Hopefully someone has seen this issue - We are experiencing some other issues that seem to be caused by this duplication.

Thanks

-Keiran

It sounds like the tools upgrade wasn't completely successful and left some of the old Version 7 files and registry entries floating around which are causing issues when version 9 is running. All I can suggest is manually removing everything related to VMware Tools from the OS, then reinstalling them cleanly.

You can get more information on how to manually clean up the filesystem and registry at http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1001354
