ESXi6 LIVE win12 R2 VM Clone to template very slow

Hi Admins,

Am trying to clone a windows server 2012 R2 live system to a template. Is it normal for the clone operation to take 2-3 hours to complete ? Am using the vSphere web client.

Can I get a reference where I can see the types of template creations and the time each clone would take ?

How would a clone to template would differ in vSphere client versus web client ?

Appreciate your responses.

Cloning operation time depends upto the server I/O,Size and etc...Mostly poweroff VM will be faster in cloning operation..

There is no standard answer for this. It will depend on your hardware, protocol and size of the disk. It shouldn't matter whether your using the webclient or thick client.

Hope this helps.
