hi,
My setup, SAN storage, 2 ESXi 4.1 vm host servers two 2 NIC each, one for private networ, one for production network.
Setup VMware HA.
Disconnect proudction network cable, it the running VM host server show "could not reach isolation address: GW_IP", but the VM virtual machine won't migrate to other VM host server.
May I ask this behaviour is normal? The system doens't have VMware FT.
Many Thanks
VM's dont migrate (No vMotion). They rebooted to the other Node if it is in good health and can accomodate all of your VMs. Did you carefully check whether the VMs has been restarted to the other node?
If a host get isolated to other hosts, it tried to ping the default gateway to understan if is really isolated.
Then the isolation response define what to do: if you have shutdown, the VM on the isolated host will be guest shutdown and restarted on other nodes.

I also try shutdown down at isolation option, but still can't fail-over if I disconnect proudction NIC cable.
It have message that can't reach the isolation address in the vm host server.
From your config only WindowsXPSP2 will be handled.
The other no.
Check if host monitor is enabled as well.

Hi,
I follow the KB to check, can't figure out what is problem, does it relate to my system each VM host have two NIC interface, one is private, the other is DMZ for production traffic.
I try to send vMotion, Management traffic to these two interface and try disconnect DMZ cable, it won't fail-over, just say that unable to readh isolation address (gateway).
I think I can't make it work.... do you have any idea for me to think?
Many thanks.
hi,
I tested that if disconnect all NIC cable (DMZ, Private), it can fail-over VM guest to other VM host server.
Can I configure only disconnect DMZ cable will trigger fail-over?
Many thanks.
Disconnect ONLY the DMZ cable could not be enough.
You must disconnect ALL the network cable where HA test is performed.
Usually all where you have Service Console and Management interfaces.
Andre
hi,
does it no way to specify only trigger HA failover when DMZ network disconnect? becasue DMZ interface provide production traffic, private LAN only for management and backup purpose.
Many thank
You must add a Management or Service Console interface in the DMZ and use the das.allowNetwork advanced option:

Andre
hi,
Thanks for you update.
I do some research about the sett das.allowNetwork, but can't figure out what exactly vaule I should put into.
Here is VMware HA setting.
ESXi 4.1 hostA:
Private 172.31.0.10
DMZ 192.168.177.245
ESXi 4.1 hostB:
Private 172.31.0.11
DMZ 192.168.177.245
I just want fail-over trigger by disconnect DMZ cable, what I should put das.allowNetwork in HA adv option? Because I am beginner on VMware HA, and I don't know what 'Service Consoel' and 'Management Network' means in HA.
Many thanks
I suggest to start read some documents from VMware site.
Advanced settings need to be understund before make any changes.
Start from http://www.vmware.com/files/pdf/virtual_networking_concepts.pdf
Then go to http://www.vmware.com/support/pubs/vs_pages/vsp_pubs_esxi41_i_vc41.html

hi,
After I research and study, change DMZ interface 'VMKernel' to 'Service Console' on both VM host servers. Add following in HA advanced option.
das.allowNetwork1 Service Console
das.bypassNetCompatCheck True
Only disconnect DMZ cable can trigger fail-over.
Many Thanks.
