Unable to add host to vDS

I noticed that one of my hosts was out of sync with a VDS.  Running the 'Rectify vSphere Distributed Switch on Host' did nothing so I attempted to remove/add the host to the switch. The remove worked, however, when I attempt to add the host to the switch it fails with the error:

vDS operation failed on host 192.168.197.152, An error occurred during host configuration. got (vim.fault.PlatformConfigFault) exception

The vmkernel.log file said this:

This is on a 5.0.0 U3 host that is/was part of a cloud.

Fun error.  My guess is you were using vCloud director and this host has not been prepared with the cloud vib's... I have never seen a vDS join fail because of it but the error seems to be pointing to the need to have span enabled.  You can find the vxlan vib on your vShield manager here:

https://vsm-ip/bin/vdn/vibs/5.1/vxlan.zip


Download it and try to manually install the vib on the host then re-join. 


You will also want to make sure the host is in vShield manager as managed.
