ESX 4.0, ICH9 SATA controller, script 34.storage-drivers failed

I have problem with ESX 4.0 (171294) installation.

When install process is trying load drivers, process stop and script 34.storage-drivers failed.

I have MSI P35 Neo3 mainboard where is ICH9 - 4 port SATA IDE Controller and ICH9 is shoud

be supported in ESX 4.0 Device Driver: ata_piix version 2.00ac6

What is going wrong in install process?

Do I need some extra driver?

Can you help me?

One more thing....Installation Error window says "no network adapters were detected"

That mainboard include Realtek 8111B 10/100/1000 adapter.

When I go to debug windows I see that Loading 32. networking-drivers is OK.

And the script 34.storage-drivers failed...

*Failed to load lvmdriver

So problem is in storage.

Well, IO Driver/Device Details below shows that ICH9 should be work:

I used google and I found several topics where in installation many get same errot: Failed to load lvmdriver

and reason was unsupported NIC. It seems that Intel Pro/1000GT NIC is what need to buy next...

Once you get your compatible NCI installed, note that the SATA RAID capability in that box might not be be understood or used by ESX so you may have to use single non-RAIDes drives to get ESX to recognize some place to install itself (assuming you're installing ESX locally). Also, some people have had to change around the SATA mode to IDE mode (sometimes called Legacy Mode depending upon manufacturer) in order for ESX 4.0 to see the single drive.

Try the defaults first, then adjust if that doesn't work.

I have now Intel Pro 1000 GT NIC and installation is going so far that real installation should start (there is all HD partitions etc OK), but system doesn't recognise install media and it ask to insert CD-ROM.

In very early when ESX4 install starts it is telling that there in no CD:

• mount-cdrom ... * no install CD found

Can you help with this problem? What I should to do? Should I change my IDE (PATA) DVD-ROM to SATA model or what???

Try going inside your System BIOS and seeing if there is an alternative choice in your BIOS to show the DVD drive in a different manner. Some have had to choose Legacy Mode others have had other choices in their BIOS -- it depends upon your BIOS.

Another option would be to instead, install ESXi 4.0 to a USB stick and boot your server from a USB stick. That's what some people have chosen to do when they didn't have a compatible CDROM/DVD drive.
