Hi
I made a test setup with ESX5 an vCenter Server 5 Appliance.
I was able to add host, but after a short time (some minutes) all host become the status "not responding".
restart management agents fix it for a short time only.
connecting the hosts directly with vSphere Client works fine.
any suggestion?
kind regards
Ivo
There's a bug in HP's ESXi5 ISO, see here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&tmp_geoLoc=true&docname=c03007056
YOu need to uninstall HP's preloaded license.
Using HP-branded installation by chance?
This happen when there is a firewall between host and vCenter, with the following ports not opened.
ESXi 5.x | 902 | TCP/UDP | ESXi 5.x | vCenter Server | (UDP) Status update (heartbeat) connection from ESXi to vCenter Server |
Also refer the below link for the port requirement.
I had same when i was implementing vSphere 4 and it got resolved once the port is opened between vcenter server and the host,
Yes, HP branded ESXi 5.0 install iso!?
No, no Firewall between vCenter Server Appliance and ESXi Host!?

Can you confirm that the vCenter Server appliance as well as the hosts resolve correctly with DNS? Did you create Hast-A entries for them? If you don't have a DNS server you'll have to configure the hosts files on each of them.

DNS Records exits!
-> It seems to be the HP iso bug like Ollfried wrote.
Thanks anyway and kind regards!
You are the winner!
many thanks!
