how to backup and restore a VM template?

does someone have any idea about creating a backup for a VM template?? and the way to restore it in another VirtualCenter?

Copy the whole folder with the template from one datacenter to another and then go to Inventory->Datastores->Select datastore where you copied template to-> find the template folder and .vmtx file inside that folder -> Add to Inventory

One way to do it is you could convert it to a VM and back it up then put convert it back to a template.

yes, we have done that process

the thing here is the time it takes to convert, backup, convert back

I was just asking for an option to "copy" the files to another datacenter with another vCenter instance

Aloha - What is it about a template that makes them "different"? For example - Ranger will not backup a template..

file extension - .vmtx vs. .vmx (regular VM). That's the only difference.
