appliance VcVa does not display options to install database at first boot

I just downloaded and deployed the VcVA (virtual center virtual appliance) and booted it.

It came up OK, but the only two options displayed were to instructions to open a browser and

accept the eula. According to the documentation, it is supposed to also have options to

select the database section, enter database information, and a few other things.

This ovf was downloaded from  www.vmware.com/download/download.do?downloadGroup=VCVA-BETA

(leaving off the '-BETA' gets 'Invalid download group'.  the downloaded file was VpxdOnLinux-VirtualAppliance.ovf

is there another place to get the download?

=================================================

At boot, my screen looks like:

#

#  you must complete the manual installationof the oracle odbc drivers

# ..

* login

* configure network

* set timezone

=========================

According to the manual, it is supposed to look like:

..

1 - Open a browser to: https://<ip>:5480

2 - Accept the EUA

3 - Select the 'Database section

4 - etner your database connection information

5 - select the status section

6 - click on the 'strart vCenter' button

Hi,

You dont have to use the beta version any more because vCenter 5.0 is GA, download the copy from the vmware download center > VMware vCenter Server 5.0 and modules > VMware vCenter Server 5.0 Appliance - OVF File etc.

To configure the database, refer to the documentation available at http://pubs.vmware.com/vsphere-50/index.jsp?topic=/com.vmware.vsphere.install.doc_50/GUID-7C9A1E23-7... see Configure Database Settings for the VMware vCenter Server Appliance section.

All the best Smiley Happy

the short answer, you always initialize the virtual appliance first ... then use the web configurator to do any specifics (like attach a database, and start services).

the long answer is to read the documentation, which you really should do for the appliance.

Also, if you have used any virtual appliances before ... a lot do not offer much other than IP and time zone configuration from the console.

Jon Hemming.

Arun,

Thanks very much, I was able to navigate to the panel where I could download it.

Unfortunately I am not entitled to download, so I’ll need to get that set up.

Vicki, you can use the "Try now" option to download the evaulation version vSphere 5 and that would help you to test the product.
