We are planning vSphere farm upgrade from 6.0U2 to 6.7U2 or higher. currently, there are 3 vcneter instances (3sites) with all external PSC joined one single SSO domain that allows enhanced linked mode.
what will be the upgrade sequence of different sites (PSC,vCenter,SRM).our ultimate goal is to get rid of external PSC and upgrade to embedded PSC with vCenter for all sites without loosing linked mode feature
After completing the upgrade of PSCs and vCenters, you can perform the converge to merge the sso in embedded setup.
In the upgrade process, you always start with the PSC. Here is some documentation from VMware: Upgrade or Migration Order and Mixed-Version Transitional Behavior for Multiple vCenter Server Insta...
Moderator: Moved to vCenter Server
First you would need to upgrade the External PSCs, all three.
After that you can proceed upgrading the vcenters and after vcenters you can upgrade SRM servers.
Below document provides the vsphere 6.7 applications upgrade sequence details.
After completing the upgrade of PSCs and vCenters, you can perform the converge to merge the sso in embedded setup.
Hi,
i have also upgraded my vcsa 6.5 to 6.7 and converged the pcs, but in the vcenter i still see one of the old psc's in the "Customer Experience Improvement Program" page.
is there a way to remove it completely?
thanks
mor
Check below article for the decommissioning these PSCs as they no longer be used,
Decommission the Platform Services Controller Using the vSphere Client
I did that exactly but still, on the CEIP page, I see the old psc...
although, in the ssh console of the vc using this command I see that the vc itself is the pcs..
/usr/lib/vmware-vmafd/bin/vmafd-cli get-ls-location --server-name localhost
can you confirm if that old PSC is shown in the output of below command,
/usr/lib/vmware-vmdir/bin/vdcrepadmin -f showservers -h localhost -u administrator -w <pssword for administrator@vsphere.local>
Using this command I can still see the old pcs…
That means the Old PSC decommission did not complete successfully.
Make sure that old PSC machine is powered off, and run below command on the vcenter which shows the PSC,
/usr/lib/vmware-vmdir/bin/vdcleavefed -h oldpscfqdn -u Administrator -w <password for administrator@vsphere.local>
If successful, should give below message,
vdcleavefd offline for server oldpscfqdn
Leave federation cleanup done
Again you can run the command to confirm that it has been removed.
/usr/lib/vmware-vmdir/bin/vdcrepadmin -f showservers -h localhost -u administrator -w <pssword for administrator@vsphere.local>
