Upgrade/Migrate - vCenter Server 5.0 on windows --> vCenter Server Applicance 6.0.0 U2?

Hello, I am trying to upgrade vSphere for a client from 5.0 to 6.0.0 U2. I don't foresee any issues with upgrading the hosts, but I'm having a terrible time getting vCenter Server upgraded. SSL problems, Inventory Service won't start/db issues, etc. This is a very simple setup with only two hosts, a DS3524 for shared storage, and one vCenter server running on a windows VM. I am considering simply scrapping the existing vCenter setup, and starting fresh with a new Appliance. What, exactly, would I lose, doing this? vMotion, HA and DRS is set up, but nothing fancy or automated.

Thanks in Advance.

Since your environment is small, I think a better option is really build a new vCenter from scratch and then move the hosts from the old vCenter to the new one... of course, you will lose all the historical data (statistics, task, events) from the old host and you will need to re-create cluster configurations on the new vCenter.

Here is a KB showing how to move an ESXi from one vCenter to another: VMware KB: Moving a managed ESXi/ESX host from one vCenter Server to another vCenter Server

Richardson,

Thank you. That is the same conclusion I think I've come to as well. Thanks very much for the KB link!

Take care,
