HA question

I've got what is probably a simple question to answer.

We have several HA enabled ESX clusters. I understand that if a host becomes isolated (ie heartbeat fails) it will shutdown its VMs when configured to do so and they'll be powered up by another host.

However does HA provide any resilence against a SAN port failure? For example if we had hosts in a cluster which were all single fibre connected and a port failed resulting in a host losing access to all its datastores, I assume HA would do nothing about this?

Your statement is correct, HA doesn't monitor for SAN failures in anyway.

with update 2 HA now can monitor single vm failures so yes but it will all depend on what type of SAN failure - because if communication at the SAN port were lost - communication to all host would be lost and the VM would not be able to start - if it were just the port on a single host then yes you would be able to restart the vm
