Deploying windows server 2008 VM from template

Hi Guys,

I'm running ESX3.5 u3 and VC 2.5 u3. And I have created the windows server 2008 template and when I tried to deploy the VM from the template I created, I noticed that guest operating system customization is not enabled. When I googled about this I got a document saying change the 2008 vm type to Vista before cloning to template and after deploying template the change the OS type to 2008 back? Is it right procedure? Please help to get out of this prob.

Thanks a lot..

-Hari.

Hi Hari,

Yes that is correct. As Sysprep is now included in the OS for Vista and 2008, there is no longer a requirement to put the sysprep files for these OS'es on VC. Unfortunately when 2008 is selected as the guest OS the sysprep does not run, the workaround is to set the OS selection to Vista. Should then run the sysprep when you deploy from template.
