Citrix server reboot hang on grey screen

Hi, we had using vmware as our primary strategy to deploy citrix servers. When the servers got reboot, the vmware session would pass the BIOS. But, it would never return to Windows Logon prompt. The only thing that I can do is hit the reset button. Sometimes, it would fix it. But, sometimes it does not work (which never show the Windows 2003 server logon prompt). I have noticed that the CPU usage for those server was kinda high compare with others. Could anyone here can shed some light on this?

Thanks,

How many cpu's does the vm have? What do you see when the server reboots? Is it a black screen or a gray screen? Is the host pingable?

Thanks for the quick response!. There were 2 cpu's. I can see the server ran through the BIOS, Windows 2003 SP2 startup procedure. But, it never give the logon prompt. The only thing I got is the grey screen. The server was not pingable.

Thanks in advanced.

I have exactly the same issue with some Citrix servers running on ESX 3.5, however the server is pingable at that moment.

Did you ever solve this issue ?

As KjB this is more than likely a Windows issue rather than a VM issue... there is a registry key that gets corrupted that can cause problems.

This thread details how to fix this...

Please post again if you have tried that and still experience the problem...
