NFS for large vmdk

I have NAS with NFS version 3.

And have a task use large space, like 15 Tb. But i have question about reliability.

How vmware work with nfs on single vmdks large space? If link is lost - i can lost all 16 Tb data on this vmdk?

What is best practice to use nfs?
