Hi

VMware vSphere tags limit – is it known ? – Virtual Village
There is no limit to my knowledge.
Thanks for sharing the link. Since no definitive answer yet, I'm going to wait to select a correct answer, and maybe VMware will chime in with an official statement.
vSphere 6.5/6.7 support 4800 Tags, 480 Tag Categories, 10 Tag Associations per VM.

do you have source to confirm this?
According to this VMware vSphere tags limit – is it known ? – Virtual Village looks like it may be 10000 for 6.0
If you plan to bulk create thousands of tags in vCenter create a snapshot. I created thousands using powershell as a test prep move from annotations + extra to tags and it ended up making the entire system unstable. Opened up a support call with VMware and they were unable to help as they had not seen anyone with so many tags. I also had tags vanish and it got to the point where you could create tags but they never appeared
First off sorry for the delay.
This is all very helpful. I think I'll log an SR to see what VMware tells me. If I get a firm answer, I'll post it here.
Thanks everyone who replied!
Anything over 100 seems to start crashing could be due to memory limitation on the appliance
Is this still unconfirmed offically by VMware or is this resolved. How about vSphere 7
There is no hardcoded limits, however there is some best practices to follow to ensure performance isn't impacted.
