Does any one know if we can limit user access to the vCenter web client only, and deny access to vCenter via the vCenter client, so only specific admins can use the desktop client.
this for version 5.1 and 5.5
Thx
Hi,
I don't know of any official block setting, but as a quick workaround, you could use a local firewall on the vCenter server and block incoming traffic on port 443.

Welcome to the community,
its only possible to block C# client access for all users through modification of some specific vCenter file see this thread below:
http://www.virtuallyghetto.com/2012/12/blocking-vsphere-c-client-logins.html
<Despite its not much practical and reasonable>
if you want to restrict C# client to just some admins I can realize that if you have two linked vCenter servers.
Simply modify one vCenter with above settings ... and leave the second intact just put second VC behind ACL and through it control users access...
All at the cost of inaccessibility of one vCenter server for some group of admins.
It would be a good feature for future releases...
