VCSA 6.7 fails to configure final IP

After data is migrated, the new VCSA fails to set the IP of the old appliance with the following message :

Error setting network. Details : 18/04/2018 22:18:51 [ERROR] Cannot run /sbin/ifup eth0 command. Unknown error. Return code : 256 output: Make sure the interface is down or not assigned any IP eth0 is DOWN or not assigned an IP. Bringnig eth0 up... Can not find the manual filename, let us search for the auto filename Performing duplicate address check for IPv4 address 10.1.0.10  [1;31mError: IP already exists in the network [0;39m Unable to set the network parameters

Failed to set network

No, there is no other 10.1.0.10 on the network

I shouldn't have ignored this warning.

The wizard told me the source VCSA has "localhost.localdomain" set as host name.

I changed that to its actual name and started the upgrade again, and it worked.

Did the exact same thing.. for anyone else with the same issue do the following:

  • Create a forward lookup zone on your dns server to 'localhost.localdom'
  • Create an A record (IPv4) or AAAA (IPv6) pointing to the IP address of your source vCentre
  • Shutdown/delete the failed installation/upgrade vCenter
  • Startup the source vCenter again
  • Run the upgrade process again
  • Enjoy!
