shared folder unavailable on guest

VMWare Workstation 14 on Arch Linux.

Windows 7 guest.

Shared folders on work station enabled and configured as:

- always enabled

- map as a network drive (also tried with this off)

- created single share from home directory

   - host path ~/irene_share

   - agnes_share

   - enabled

Nothing named "Vmware-share" or ".host" or any facsimily thereof appears

No Z: drive (or any other lettered drive) appears

Windows guest is fully patched.

Network discovery is enabled (successful mounts from remote shares on the network)

"sharing wizard" disabled.

A dozen or so variations of deleting, recreating, rebooting and whatnot have been attempted with no success.

How do I get the share to appear on Win 7?

Thank you.

Fixed.

Uninstall/reinstall vmware-tools.

The .ova I used for this machine is an old one from work. I don't know what version of vmware-tools was originally installed (or what options were used). I was asked to upgrade it shortly after the install; but apparently something didn't take.

Thank you for the help.

Silly basic question, but do you have the VMware Tools installed in the Windows 7 guest?

In your guest, what happens if you execute \\vmware-host in Window Explorer?

"Network Error: Windows cannot access \\vmware-host"

Which makes me think... The guest is bridged. Is this SMB share really travelling over the network? or does vmware-tools pull some subterfuge and just make it appear?
