VMware Workstation 7 running W2K8 R2 VM bridged networking

My W2K6 R2 VM running in Workstation 7 VM configured with bridged networking and assigned static IP, cannot ping gateway or DNS. What is the workaround?

Does the network that the bridge network is using has DHCP? If it does then try having DHCP assign the ip.

Can you create another VM (with bridged networking) and then ping between them? What is the results?

The network being used by the bridge is the physical NIC on the blade. I am using static IP and DNS settings for my handful of VMs rather than DHCP. R2 is new and may have bugs.

I need access to the external network, which is why I selected the bridged network.
