My host OS is Win7 64bit, and installed Ubuntu 9.10 64bit on VMware Workstation 7.
I have succeeded in installing the VMware Tools in virtual machine, but when I open
it and press the shrink tab, then some horrible things happen...
There do not have any virtual disk can be chosen inside the blank.....just like the attachment.
I'm sure that the disk space is not preallocates for this hard disk, and in independent, persistent mode.
This problem have bothered me several days. Could someone help me......
Thanks!!
Guys, and is the Shrink function supported for Ubuntu 9.10 ? I've read this one (although this is about Player) but here are similar symptoms.
After a "patch-loving" 2.0.2 server installation I can believe that Ubuntu 9.10 still remains not supported by100% .

Welcome to the forums!
Are the virtual disks thick or thin provisioned?
Are there snapshots?
Do you use LVM in the guest?

if you do not use LVM - post the vmx-file.
You always can shrink manually though ...

before we have not seen the vmx-file any discussion is moot - shrink will not work when OP set flags for the vmdks.

I removed the original virtual machine, and installed Ubuntu 8.04 (an old version).
Thus, the vmdk file can be shrunk successfully.
Thanks for your massive advices and informations.
Hope that the function of vmware tools could support to Ubuntu 9 or Ubuntu 10 in a few days~~~
