Limitation on the number of NIC in workstn 5

Hi !

Does anyone know why the number of NICs that can be connected to a guest is limited to 3 ? This is because I want t be able to add more NICs to some of my guests !

Thank you !

Well there are only 6 PCI slots available in WS 4.x, 5.x.

One slot is already taken for the video card leaving just 5 slots.

Depending on the virtual machine configuration, you may be able to manually add a fourth virtual network adapter.

With VMware Workstation 6, you may be able to add 10 virtual network adapters using the UI

Mmmmh ! The documentation says that there is limitaion of 3 NICs and it say noting about the 6 PCI slots you are talking about !

When you say "depending on the guest configuration", does it mean it is possible to modify it so that the number of NICs can be more than 3 ? If yes, how ?

Thank you !

The limitation of 3 virtual network adapters is correct, when using the UI.

You would have to manually edit .vmx file to add a fourth if your configuration will allow it.

Post your .vmx file

Looks like your current configuration is full, unless you want to do without sound

You can manually specify up to 4 ethernet cards. You can still have a maximum of 6 virtual PCI cards, however (and you can't remove the video card). PCI slots = videoscsinic+audio

So the solution is to remove the sound \!!! and by that get one more slot for a NIC !

Thanks to everyone that provide me answers !

If you decide to upgrade to WS 6, you will be able to have 10 virtual network adapters Smiley Happy
