In VMWare Fusion there is the ability to add notes to a VM which I find especially useful to record things like passwords and such.
I have been unable to find any such feature.
In VMware Workstation you can add such information in the GUI's "Description" files.
André
Where exactly is this option? Thanks
Select the VM in the Library (in the left pane), and you will find the Description field below the VM's virtual hardware settings.
André
The Description field you are referring to does not exist in Workstation 15 Pro.
You can use the annotation parameter in the vmx-file.
annotation = "this VM behaves like a hamster and needs to be feeded three times a day"
Dont use line breaks as they will make the vmx-file invalid.
Then something is broken in your VMware Workstation.

No need to edit a .vmx file by hand for that. It's still in the user interface.
Btw, if you do edit by hand and want to add a new line, then use |0D|0A to put the new line.
It's encoded as otherwise the name/value pair syntax on each line in the .vmx file won't work.
