Ubuntu 10.04 - Unable to start GUI on VMware Player

startx gives segmentation fault error. I don't know what caused this but it was working normal before.

How can I recover from this?

I'd uninstall VMware Tools, reboot and then try starting the GUI.

If you are able to use the GUI then reinstall VMware Tools, reboot and see if there are any issue with VMware Tools and the GUI.

BTW What version of VMware Player and what kernel are you using?

I tried a few things except uninstalling and then reinstalling VMware Tools. Unfortunately the system totally crashed. Then I wiped the virtual machine and reinstalled it Smiley Happy.

I use VMware Player 5.0.2 build-1031769.
