Hi,
How do I share files between host and guest? I have tried to access a shared folder on host, and have also tried drag-drop.
When dragging and dropping I get this message:
\-------
Cannot open file on virtual machine.
Aborting the drag and drop operation.
\-------
Host: Windows Vista
Guest: Knoppix persistent image
Thanks
Another user said that his guest had a version of the Tools installed before, so when he installed the 2.0 Tools, it did an upgrade. And since the hgfs driver (used for shared folders) had not been previously installed, the upgrade did not install it. Try making sure to do a Full install of the Tools in your guest.
Do you have the VMware Tools installed in the guest?
Are you using Player 2?

I don't think so, but I don't know how to get it on if i can't transfer files.
Are you using Player 2?
Yes
Player 2 includes the VMware Tools installation ISOs. Mount the Linux.iso to the guest's CD-ROM drive. Then follow the instructions in the Workstation user manual for Installing VMware Tools in a Linux guest.
Hi, I had to set up a new CDrom drive, since the main one is used for the knoppix .iso. This is what I added to the config file:
\------
ide1:1.present = "TRUE"
ide1:1.fileName = ".\linux.iso"
ide1:1.deviceType = "cdrom-image"
\------
/mnt/hdc/ and /mnt/hdd/ appear to have no files in them, even in root shell.
Nor does /media/hdc/ and /media/hdd/ .
Sorry, I mounted the drive wrong.
I managed to get the rpm installer up, but this was returned:
</mnt/hdd/VMwareTools-6.0.0-45731.i386.rpm';echo RESULT=$?
error: Failed dependencies:
/bin/sh is needed by VMwareTools-7238-45731.i386
RESULT=1
but /bin/sh does exist>
Edit:
OK, I have managed to set up vmware-tools and run it. Ethernet is enabled, but I cannot transfer files.

Hi, still haven't got anywhere with sharing files.
Any ideas?

Thank you, I can now share files between guest and host.
