unable to install VMWare Tools

Just installed VMWare Fusion on a Mac mini runnign Snow Leopard. Created a new VM and installed XP. Tried to install VMWare Tools, but when I click the menu item, I get the following pop-up error: "Error toggling VMware Tools Install: Stale data."

Any insight / help would be appreciated.

Select Cancel VMware Tools Installation from the Virtual Machine menu and then make sure the Virtual Machine (menu) > CD/DVD is set to Using Physical Disc Drive and then reboot the Virtual Machine from within Windows using Start > Turn Off Computer > Restart and then when back at the Windows Desktop try installing VMware Tools again.
