retina resolution in Mac OS VM... possible?

For the life of me, I can't get my Mac OS VM to run in retina resolution. I can't tell if this is simply not supported, or if I am doing something wrong. I would much appreciate any pointers.

My VM is Mac OS 10.9 (Fusion 6.02 Professional). My host is also Mac OS 10.9, running on a late 2013 13' Macbook Pro with Retina.

I tried everything I could think of -- starting the VM in full screen mode, fiddling with the display options in VM settings, and in the VM, and with the "Open in Low Resolution" option -- nothing seems to make any difference. The VM runs in some lame low resolution mode (1024x768??), which makes it pretty much unusable.

Help!!

(UPDATE: For what it's worth, I can run a Windows 7 VM in Retina/hi-resolution on the same laptop, no problem.)

Hi, I had the same problem and it was solved by installing VMWare tools into virtual machine.
