Garner says when migrating from a PC, that if the PC is running an OEM version, "the migration may fail".
Is there a workaround for this? The PC I want to migrate is an OEM XP version.
I do have an XP installation disk for another PC. Can I re-install this on the OEM PC to make it a non-OEM PC? So the Migration Assistant would work.
Or is there some other workaround?

OEM versions of Microsoft products live and die on the first system they are installed on and are not transferable to another system, physical or virtual. If you have a Retail or VLK version of Windows XP then just create the Virtual Machine directly from the Disc.
Thanks for the response. I can create the Virtual Machine with my
Retail version. But once this is done, what I need to do is to get
all of the Applications that are on the PC into this Virtual
Machine. Can the migration assistant successfully migrate all of the
other stuff & applications from the PC, except for the OEM operating
system? And will they all work on the Virtual Machine.
If yes, how is this done? Or do I need to re-install all of the
Apps? This would take forever. I guess my question is can you pick
& choose what the Migration Assistant migrates?

You will need to reinstall your applications and copy/move your user data my normal methods use to move information between devices.
Thanks, I was afraid I'd have to do this. Thanks for confirming this.
