Unable to power on VMs , found HDD renamed as servername-flat.vmdk;

Unable to power on VMs , found HDD renamed as servername-flat.vmdk; while trying to rename file as servername.vmdk getting error like" Unable to access file.[ Data Store name] servername / servername-flat.vmdk"

Kindly suggest?

Why HDD renamed as " Servername-flat.vmdk"

you renamed the file? What does your .vmx say?

you don't have a servname.vmdk, just the -flat.vmdk?

In ESX each virtual disk is composed by 2 different file: a name.vmdk (with the geometry of the disk) and a name-flat.vmdk (with the raw data block).

Do do manually rename them, cause you have also to fix the vmx file (and in any case, when you migrate the vm datastore, the name will be restored with default value).

Note that the datastore browser shows only 1 file for each vmdk disk, but if you use ssh or WinSCP you can see both files.
