Force delete files from a datastore?

Hi,

I am running into the same problem as decribed in other posts like this http://communities.vmware.com/thread/210198. However in my case I have re-installed ESX on all the hosts that were connected to the SAN. Hence now no ESX is using the files on the SAN. However I am not able to delete them. I get an error: Device or resource busy. Is there any way to force delete all these files.

Which kind of SAN do you have?

Have you restart also the storage part?

I have a DCG FC SAN. I have not restarted the SAN. Unfortunately I am not a SAN expert and don't know how to do that. But I ask my lab admin to do that. Are you suggesting that restarting the SAN will get rid of this problem? (Kinda makes sense since any open handles will get deleted).

Will I have to do some reconfiguration if I restart the SAN?

DCG FC SAN

I do not know this mode... maybe you mean a EMC CX-something?

It's very strange that a FC SAN keep a look on a file.

How do you have reinstall all your node? One by one?

Do you have a DRS cluster?

VMFS datastore provides distributed locking mechanism to lock the files. If you files are shared on the datastore and other host also accessing the same file, then you can delete the files untill all the hosts are disconnected from the datastore or free write lock...

So you have two options here, either you can restart the san to disconnect all the connections from the hosts servers or otherwise run the vmkfstools command with lunreset to break the log on the host servers and then you can delete all the files from any of the servers.

The "model" shows as ISP2432... Not sure if this is what you were asking about. I have a custer but DRS/HA is currently turned off. I reinstalled all my hosts one-by-one and connected them to a new VC.

Can you point me to some details about the vmkfstools lunreset command? I want to know what exactly will it be doing before trying it out.
