Adding a 3rd new SAS 300GB disk to ESX 3.5

What I Have:

1. Dell R160 Server - Running ESX 3.5

2. Two 300GB SAS hard disks - RAID 0 (I dont need redundancy)

3. 2 300GB disks form 1 Virtual Disk VD0 of capacity approx 580GB

Requirement:

Now I bought a new SAS 300GB HD which I want to add to the already existing ESX setup. I want this 300GB to be the 2nd new datastore(LUN) so that i can create few more VMs on this datastore. I dont want to re-install the whole ESX setup (if possible)

What I tried:

1. A way I can create a new Virtual disk on this 3rd 300GB SAS HD so that I can add it to the ESX datastore through VM Infrastructure Client. - Did not work :(. Also simple plug and play of the drive doesnt work as the ESX is not able to scan the HD if I just add it to the drive simply and run ESX

I am a newbie so please let me know if you guys need any more info to solve my prob.

Thanks.

Vik

After installing the HDD into the server, you will need to perform a rescan under Configuration -> Stroage Adapters

Thats the first thing I tried but it did not work. The scan doesnt show me the new drive.

Also, I tried to go to the RAID BIOS at bootup and this is what I found

1. Physical Drives

-

1 300 SAS ---Online

-

2 300 SAS ---Online

-

3 300 SAS ---Ready

2. Virtual Drives

--- VD 0 (580GB)

-

1 300 SAS

-

2 300 SAS

Alright then, you need to cerate a virtual disk on your Raid controller first.
