boot fails after patch applied

ESX 3.0.1 on Dell PE6800

After I successfully applied the patch ESX-2158032 which includes vmkernel updates, boot process has been stopped with the following lines:

\----

.......

hid-core.c: USB HID support drivers

Loading console keybdev.o

Loading console fat.o

Loading console vfat.o

BusyBox v0.60.5 (2005.11.01-17:53+0000) Built-in shell (ash)

Enter 'help' for a lost of built-in commands.

sh: can't access tty; job control turned off

#hub.c: new USB device 00:1d.0-1, assigned address 2

......

......

hub.c new USB device 00:1d.1-1. assigned address 2

hub.c: USB hub found

hub.c: 2 ports detected

-

< boot process stopped here >----

As far as I investigated in rescue mode,

\- checksum for the patch is correct

\- the patch was successfully applied in esxupdate.log

\- initrd was updated after the patch was applied

It fails to load file system modules. It must be logged the following lines, which is in dmesg on other health ESX server with same configuration.

EXT3 FS 2.4-0.9.19, 19 August 2002 on sd(8,2), internal journal <= sd(8,2) is / (root) partition

822 Adding Swap: 2097128k swap-space (priority -1)

Does anybody have ideas to fix this issue? Appreciate any comments. Thanks.

I seem to remember there being some sort of IRQ problem in the 6800s.

I seem to think the answer was to disable USB in the BIOS.

Let me do some searching.

Thank you, BrianG.

As I gave up to solve this issue and have already reinstalled ESX Server, I close this item. Thanks a lot.

I get the exact same message on an ESX 3.0.1 I am trying to install ESX 3.5 RC on. The host is a Dell 2850. No errors with ESX 3.0.1, but as soon as I install 3.5 RC and reboot....
