ESX3.5 DVD ROM driver problem

Hi all,

I am trying to setup ESX Server 3.5 (evaluation edition) and I am unable to start the installation.

Configuration:

Intel core 2 duo 2.33GHz

RAM: 1.5 GB DDR2

HD: SATA 160 GB (Legacy mode)

DVD ROM (IDE)

Issue:

Installation starts, I enter the language and Keyboard map options then the wizard asks for selection of Installation Method,

Installation Method : Local CD-ROM.

Error:

No driver found----

Unable to find any devices of the type needed for this installation type. Would you like to manually select your driver ir use a driver disk?

1. I have tried with all the listed drivers but no luck.

2. I have tried giving following linux kernel boot options,

esx all-generic-ide noapic pci=nommconf (as suggested by many linux forums)

Can anyone tell me whats the issue here and what is the solution to resolve it?

Thanks in advance

Chetan

I just came across an article where in SATA controller compatibility matrix is given (http://www.vm-help.com/esx/esx3.5/Whiteboxes_SATA_Controllers_for_ESX_3.5_3i.htm)

My motherboard is DG33FB with ICH9 SATA controller, is it because of this that I am facing the problem?

I do know that there are problems with some sata raid controllers (perc6 in dell boxes) the fix is a bios update as there is an irq conflict.

the fixis updating bios and firmware of all hardware
