Hi Everyone, Has any one successfully thinapped Internet Explorer 10? I have attempeted it on a win 7 32-bit VM with Thinapp 4.7.3 and was able to capture it. But when i launch the package, Local IE 8 is opening but not the IE10. Just wanted to check with you all if there were any attemps made. Thanks!
Hi,
While capturing IE 10, did you by any chance ,
1. Do Pre scan.
2. Clicked on Internet explorer.
3. and Chose " Include an Entry point for System Installed Internet explorer?
GURU
Hi, thanks for the quick reply. I didnot select the "Internet explorer" option at the setup capture.
The packager machine had IE 8 installed locally. So, i started setup capture, installed IE 10 (reboot) and closed the setup capture.
Has anyone tried thinapping Internet Explorer 10?
I tried various setting in Thinapp. Win7 both 32/64bit and 2008R2 server. I even tried to capture installation of IE9 and IE10 over IE8. No luck . It always runs IE8 or IE9 instead.
I would also like to know the answer for this. Is there currently any logging in VMware ThinApp that could aid in why the installation fails?
I am currently packaging IE7, IE8, IE9, and IE10. Each will have Java, Flash, and Reader. This is currently where I am at:
IE7 - Does not work if Reader is added. Only can be installed with Windows XP.
IE8 - Works great when packaging with Windows Vista. Cannot package in Windows 7. If packaged in Windows Xp, do not install Reader with it.
IE9 - Works great with Windows 7.
IE10 - Only can be packaged in Windows 7 and continuously fails.
If someone has figured out how to package IE10, please share. Would be very beneficial for everyone.
I was able to package 32-bit IE10 on Windows 7. Our physical and virtual hosts all run 64-bit Windows 7, and to get the IE10 ThinApp to run I had to enable the Wow64=0 line in package.ini, then rebuild.
Can you post some more details on what you did to get IE 10 to work? I tried on a Win7 x32/x64 VM and both didn't work. They throw the same errors when attempting to launch the app on a Windows 2k8R2 Server.
IE 9 ThinApp worked fine for me on the same Server.
I'm sorry, I don't know that I can suggest much else. I wasn't getting any errors at all - the IE10 ThinApp just wouldn't start. I captured it on a clean 32-bit Windows 7 machine and it wouldn't launch at all on any 64-bit Windows 7 system. It didn't give me any errors or other clues. Enabling Wow64=0 and rebuilding the package is what finally worked.
Hello All,
I have the same Problem. IE10 never start and wasn't getting any error on screen.
- Try to capture on Win 7 32 / 64 bits >> Same Issue
- Select All the Entry points for Internet Explorer
- Enabling Wow64=0 or 1 and rebuilding the package >> Same Issue
The log monitor give me this but it didn't give me a clue to solve this problem. If somebody have a suggestions, it'll be great :

Try applying the following Package.Ini parameter
ExternalDLLs=kernelbase.dll;kernel32.dll
Do you have documentation/steps on the IE9+Java+Flash package? I am looking to package them together for our Windows 7 linked clone pools. Any help from the forum would be greatly appreciated.
I have tried using both the ExternalDLLs options and the Wow64 options mentioned in this thread to no avail. When using the ExternalDLLs options there is no change and when using the Wow64 option the thinapp starts and displays a working browsing but the content pane is white(each page is white blankspace with nothing on the page). Without the Wow64 option the APP does not open, no error, just spinning loading icon and then crashes.
I am thinapping IE10 on a clean Win7 32bit machine with full patches. I am trying to run the IE10 thinapp on a Win7 64bit machine that already has IE11 installed.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Read this document for supported versions of IE and how it must be captured and what PCs it can be run on: VMware KB: Support Policy for Internet Explorer virtualized with VMware ThinApp
My guess is you aren't compliant with the supported configurations somehow. The doc isn't entirely clear to me on whether you can run 32bit IE on Win7 x64, captured as you have done on a 32bit Win7 system. I would tend to say it won't work and you probably need to capture and run 64bit IE on a Win7 SP1 64bit capture OS. The other point is it may not work if you have IE11 on a client. Their doc isn't completely clear the captured thinapp version can be run on target systems with a newer IE. In general it sounded like IE11 is not supported but not sure what that means re the clients that run a thin IE. My guess would be since the thin IE can still read a lot of native PC's IE directories, it will probably interfere with the thin version and isn't yet supported.
This is what I did- capture on Win7 x64 system, download the full installer for IE10 x64, captured the install and packaged for use only on x64 computers. It works fine for me and I added the ExternalDLLs=kernelbase.dll;kernel32.dll line under [BuildOptions] section in the package.ini as some have suggested.
I'm only testing thinapp and haven't bought yet but I'm surprised that the documentation is so lacking and/or spread out for the product.
Particularly with regards to IE, which has to be the #1 or #2 app people want to virtualize (along with MS Office), I thought there would be more obvious tips/hints/faqs/stickys/samples etc that would point people in the right direction.
