Read this document for supported versions of IE and how it must be captured and what PCs it can be run on: VMware KB: Support Policy for Internet Explorer virtualized with VMware ThinApp
My guess is you aren't compliant with the supported configurations somehow. The doc isn't entirely clear to me on whether you can run 32bit IE on Win7 x64, captured as you have done on a 32bit Win7 system. I would tend to say it won't work and you probably need to capture and run 64bit IE on a Win7 SP1 64bit capture OS. The other point is it may not work if you have IE11 on a client. Their doc isn't completely clear the captured thinapp version can be run on target systems with a newer IE. In general it sounded like IE11 is not supported but not sure what that means re the clients that run a thin IE. My guess would be since the thin IE can still read a lot of native PC's IE directories, it will probably interfere with the thin version and isn't yet supported.
This is what I did- capture on Win7 x64 system, download the full installer for IE10 x64, captured the install and packaged for use only on x64 computers. It works fine for me and I added the ExternalDLLs=kernelbase.dll;kernel32.dll line under [BuildOptions] section in the package.ini as some have suggested.
I'm only testing thinapp and haven't bought yet but I'm surprised that the documentation is so lacking and/or spread out for the product.
Particularly with regards to IE, which has to be the #1 or #2 app people want to virtualize (along with MS Office), I thought there would be more obvious tips/hints/faqs/stickys/samples etc that would point people in the right direction.
