We are testing EXSi 4 and have p2v a vm. We set the vm to 2gig memory, but still seem to run into slowness and keyboard slows down etc. Haven't been able to figure out how to monitor the memory as it shows the full 2gig I gave it. There is no balloning that I see, so my question is how do you actually know if you need to give it more memory or not without having some kind of monitoring setup?
Any help will be helpful,
Thanks,
Killr
I beleive we have some know how now.
Thanks alot for everyones help.

You run P2V for Windows? Did you clean already unpresent devices after P2V? VMTools installed? Also look at this http://communities.vmware.com/docs/DOC-5430

You might want to take a look at the active and swapped counters as well. How much memory does the host have and are you running any other VMs. It'l also a good idea to cleanup the VM after a P2V (remove hardware agents, drivers, etc).

Do you have a system or PCI card working with VMDirectPath? Submit your specs to the Unofficial VMDirectPath HCL - http://www.vm-help.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=21.
Dave,
We are just new into this. Our company is wanting to go virtual, so we are doing a poc right now. Our host has 28 gig on it and we set the virtual with 2gig, but seem to keep getting alarms on the memory. I do not see anyway to monitor the usage as the vm only show what has been allocated and not what has or is being used. Can you tell me how to look at the active and swapped counters?
Thanks,
Kenny
