view security server question

I have a test lab I have built, but want to install the security server for remote testing. Do I have to install this on a completely different os or can i install on either active directory or vcenter?

You need to install it on it's own server.

The security server must not be a AD DC or AD member.

It's designed to be put in a DMZ.

If its only for test/lab you do not really need a Security Server, all the functionality is also on the Connection Server.

You need then to expose it to your external clients.

It is not recommended from a security perspective since you would expose a AD-joined Windows-server with potentially sensitive information to the internet, but as long as you aware of the risks vs benefits then you should be ok.

ok, I put it in a DMZ in my test lab. I still can't connect. Maybe I don't have all the necessary ports open? I have already installed the server and paired it with the connection server. ideas? sorry, little new to this  still.

If this is for 4.6 you can follow this document, http://communities.vmware.com/docs/DOC-14974, which will show you how to setup remote access for PCOIP.

Thanks for the help guys. I ended up putting the security server into the DMZ and pairing it with the vcs. I opened ports 4172 and 443 on my security server in the router and firewall. Then created firewall rules in vcs for ports 4172. Had somebody test it and it works great! Thanks again.
