Hi,
Recently I bought InteL Pro 1000 T server network adapter. And I have installed ESX 3.0.1 one one machine ( Pentium D 3.0 Mercury mother board 1GB RAM 20 GB HDD IDE) and checked available nics on ESX and able to ping the other laptop (IBM T41) using the switch (Linksys 100 MBps)
then again I have installed the same on another machine with the same network card on (AMD athlon 3000+ Asus K8NE 2 GB RAM) but unable to find the Nics on this machine and unable to ping the other machine also here i am using the cross cable connection not a swtich.
How to fix this problem ?
Did you Say IDE drives? Those aren't on the Hardware Compatibility list and you might have weird problems if you continue to test there.
Try using equipment on the HCL.
Respectfully,
This is for my home lab so as per the previous posts i am using san melody to resolve that problem but in the previous machine i am able to ping the other machine so would it be an issue with the cross cable .
Can I use cross cable connection for the networking is there any specific NIC requirements for the VM client (infrastructure client ) because i am using Intel 82540oem on the client machine .
If you have gigabit nics I did not think you could use crossover cables with those
In that case why it is not showing when i am doing esxcfg -nics -l in my new machine whereas it is showing in the old machine which is regular one
Can any body help me on this ....please
GigE NICs will autocorrect polarity problems, so it doesn't matter if you use a cross-over or not - either will work.
If you don't see the NIC when doing a esxcfg-nics -l then ESX is not detecting it as a recognized device. It won't make any difference at all whether you're using a cable, a hub, or a switch - you're not getting that far. I would suggest trying a different PCI slot and see if that makes any difference.
Debugging these issues on "non-standard" hardware can be a pain - good luck!
Can any one suggest me a good network card at cheap price since this is for my home lab. I have checked couple of network cards and most of them are not working
Please help I am located in India and i have asked couple of vendors and most of them are telling more than 300$ which i cannot effort
If the same network card works in your other ESX box, then it should also work in this box.
Firstly I'd recommend turning off all unused embedded peripherals on the motherboard and also disable APIC. (apic can be disabled by appending noapic to the kernel parameters in /boot/grub/grub.conf or interactively at boot time)
