MSDE vs SQL

I don't have access to a SQL box for my VC. What are the limitations of MSDE and is it possible to move the data I will have on MSDE to SQL, once it becomes available to me?

There are not really any limitations besides the 2GB database size, performance is the issue. Yes you can move MSDE to SQL or you can simply start over with a new SQL db.

And don't forget that VMware doesn't SUPPORT the use of MSDE for production environments. (note that SUPPORT <> support)

Depending on how many hosts you have, you may find that your db hits 2gb quite quickly. When this happens, the VC service will stop if you're using MSDE and will not start until you compact the database.

You can use the free version of Microsoft SQLServer2005 Express. So that, if your VC Database become later, larger than 2Go, you have the possibility to aquire a license of SQLServer whitout the needed of migrate your VC database.

You can easily prevent this by changing or turning off the performance statistics collection intervals.

It was stated above that depending on the number of hosts a database may hit 2gb rather quickly. How many hosts are we talking? 5 or 35?

Thanks
