What is vmware-fdm that gets installed on my 6.5 host automatically or updated automatically?
Fault Domain Manager, part of the HA function: vSphere HA Architecture Series – FDM (1/5) – Yellow Bricks | Yellow Bricks
Hi,
VCenter Servers use Fault Domain Manager (FDM) agents for high availability (HA), rather than Automated Availability Manager (AAM) agents.

hi do these get updated automatically? I am seeing that these got installed but nobody actually went into the host to install or update these
Are the hosts in a HA cluster?
Its the vCenter which pushed the package onto a Host. Question is this happens when a Host joined the vCenter as standalone or only when its part of a cluster or when HA will be enabled on the cluster. The old name was (Legato)AAM) and the change to FDM was around 5.x or so.
I take notice that if you upgrade vCenter alone and when login vCenter first time IIRC you see FDM update task even when you not have upgrade your hosts yet.

Joerg
Hi,
if it is not set automatically, it cannot.
ARomeo
yes all in HA
the hosts are all part of vcenter and in HA cluster. vcenter was not updated. the host shows uptime of 166 days. so I am not sure why the vmware-fdm vib shows an installed date of 2/1/2020
Check the fdm.log file in a shell access for one of the ESXi that is the member of your cluster.
cat /var/log/fdm.log
you can also search for sth like installed with | grep -i installed in that log file
