Strange VSS error results orphaned Snapshot File

Hi,

at first:

I had for this special situation already a Case with VMware. But without satisfactory result...

I*m running VMware ESXi 5 and vCenter 5 (both latest Build), under some special condition a Snapshot with VSS Fails with the following error:

'VssSyncStart' operation failed: Unbekannter Fehler (0x80004005)

-> unkown error

There is no visible in-guest Error (eventlog, vssadmin list writers).  The eventlog looks like the snapshot is complete successful...

Snapshot without VSS works great (with Sync Driver or without quiescence).

I also tried reboot of the VM, re-install VMware Tools, tried VSS in the Guest.

It`s an VM with 2 Disks, both vmdk,1 SAS controller for first Disk, 1 PVSCSI for Data Disk.

OS: Windows 2008

App: vCenter incl. SQL Express

After this error occurs the VM is running on a Snapshot, bit the Snapshot is not visible in the SnapShot Manager:

And now two questions:

- does anyone have the same VSS problem?

- does anyone have the same orphaned snapshot problem?

In the attachment is the vmware.log of the VM with vss and backup debug enabled.
