I have a Samsung SSD 850 EVO in my NUC5i5RYH and it doesn't show up anywhere except the bios.
Over the past day or so i have read numerous topics and blogs on the subject however all of the solutions presented start of with retreiving some information about the ssd through shell commands like "esxcli storage core device list". The problem is that my ssd doesn't show up in any of these commands. I have asked around and people do seem to think this ssd should work with the hardware and software. So now i'm wondering if i'm doing something wrong or if this ssd isn't compatible?
Hi Jeffrey and welcome to the forums!
The SATA controller of the Intel NUC5i5RYH is not officially supported by ESXi.
You need to install my sata-xahci package to make ESXi recognize it, and then you will also be able to use the attached SSD.

This might be a stupid question, but did you create the virtual disk on it via the BIOS?
Another condition could about the controller which connects to the SSD. Is the controller detected by ESXi. Are you able to see the controller in lspci or esxcfg-scsidevs -a output? If not, you could be missing a supported driver
