SQL 2000 + ESX4 + NFS Datastore

Hi All,

Recently migrated to ESX 4 (U2) running over 2x IBM x3650's and a Netgear 6-Bay NAS with the VM's running on NFS. Previous environment was ESX3 running all VM's from local SCSI Disks. I've sucssfully migrated all the VM's accross to the new setup except for one...

SQL Server 2000 running a 2Gb Database. Will I run into any major performance problems running this over NFS? It's our stocking and ordering system, it's not very well written and runs pretty slow anyway. I have read that it's not best practice to run this kind of thing over NFS, but I am no SQL guru.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Regards,

I think there are not much difference on performance from protocol wise. It's really up to disks type you use and RAID type and how many spindles you have on the RAID.

Give your circumstance, I wouldn't suggest to use 6 bays NAS for your SQL since you need to have log (RAID 1) and normal data (RAID 5).
