Hi,

by default, VMware ESXi logs do not persist upon a reboot. If you need logfiles, you have to configure a syslogserver to collect the files.

It depend on your ESXi licensing, you are able to use VMware Loginsight or vCenter Server Syslog Server.

For each vCenter Server Licence, you get 25 OSI License of vRealize Loginisght.

Hi,

another reason might be the lack of a persistent scratch location.

If your ESXi hosts is booting from a USB/SD device or you're using a stateless installation then the logs will be gone after a reboot.

Please have a look at the following KB:

Creating a persistent scratch location for ESXi 4.x/5.x/6.0 (1033696) | VMware KB

Best regards,

Marcin
